First approach
The Company
Women Bank started operations in Barcelona. Their goal was to offer a different way to save and manage money by giving customers innovative options such as virtual currencies. They have detected that the conventional Credit/Debit System shows big inconveniences for travelling customers. The idea is to give customers access to a payment feature that they can use exclusively when they travel. So instead of using their cards, they can use the app on their mobile devices.
The audience
Anyone that has travelled and usually uses their card abroad. Thoughout the following questionary I did the research about the users.
Problem to solve
With card payments…
- Card fraud risk.
- Overcharges or extra fees.
- Confusion when payments are charged in a different currency than the bank one.
- Some shops don’t allow credit/debit card payments.
- Having to withdraw money because they don’t accept card payments.
With cash payments…
- Find a proper ATM place.
- Feeling unsafe withdrawing money.
- Finding the best currency exchange rate ATM place.
Solutions and Opportunities
Possible solutions
- Easily exchange currency, switch between them and choose which one to transact.
- A map to find the nearest ATM points. Also showing for each ATM the daily currency exchange rate.
- A system to request withdraw operation on the app to then after collect the amount of money they requested on the ATM. Similar system used when collecting an order.
- Allowance to set a trip budget, to take control of the spending.
- No-charge for extra/hidden fees.
How? Adding a tab on the current bank app, a travel tab/mode.
Opportunities from the solutions
- Avoid carrying the card with them even when using ATM machines.
- Avoid card fraud risk.
- Expand to under-served groups (people with disabilities or senior citizens that sometimes are more scared to use ATMs).
- Decrease time to complete withdraw transaction.
- Geolocalise ATMs.
- Language barrier on ATM.
- Increase loyalty with better service.
